Please join us for the 1st Speaker Series of 2026 by welcoming Greg and Bernie!
This talk will include a quick overview of canoe racing, mixed with fun stories from their racing experiences. Bernie and Greg will share their “two rules” for winning canoe races and show how easy it can be to win your first racing award. They will also share stories about other fun ways to get exercise, explore new parts of a watershed, and improve your favorite local waterway.
Greg Bechtel and Bernie Moller have been canoeing for a long time. Over the past 10+ years, they have added canoe racing to their long list of paddling adventures as a way to improve and test their overall paddling fitness and skills. They have teamed up in many local, state, and national races, winning numerous state championships and taking home national championship trophies in 2017 and 2022.
Bernie and Greg also spend a lot of time working to improve and maintain our local streams and rivers. Bernie serves on the board of Rivers Unlimited (as secretary), works with the water quality monitoring program for the Great Miami River, works on restoration and education with the Ohio River Foundation, and is active with the Mill Creek Yacht Club. Greg is on the board for the Mill Creek Alliance (also as secretary) and spends a lot of time supporting Mill Creek Yacht Club activities.
